Can that be? When an auto crashes bumper to bumper into another vehicle it can bounce and return to bounce off?

several times in a rapid succession? Can anyone explain then why a baseball thrown at a bat at 80 miles an hour does not ever bounce in the same described manner? Can the physics governing this be explained? I would think that once the vehicle reflected off one time it would then travel in the opposite direction widening the distance as it could.
